1. to surround, bind, or encircle, as with a belt.

2. to make (oneself) ready, as for a situation requiring skill, courage, or energy.
The soldiers girded themselves for action.
3. to supply or equip, as with force or ammunition.
The regiment was girded with cannon.
He faced his enemies girded only with the truth.
