1. the act of saving property from destruction, esp. the rescue of a ship or its cargo from fire or shipwreck.
The salvage of the leaking vessel seemed impossible.

2. the property that is saved in this way.
The salvage was hauled to the shore.

3. the money that is paid to people who voluntarily help in such an effort.

transitive verb
1. to save or rescue (all or part of something) from harm or destruction.
We salvaged all we could from our home after the flood.
Much of the ship’s cargo was salvaged from the wreckage.
After her crushing defeat, we doubted she could salvage her reputation.

2. to keep (the parts of something that remain intact after a destructive event) for later use.
