2. slow-paced.
The coffin is borne to the burial ground in a sedate procession.

 transitive verb

to give a drug to so as to tranquilize or cause a sleeping state.
The patient was sedated before she was brought into the operating room.
The veterinarian sedated the lion so that it could be tagged with a radio collar.
