Weekly Vocabulary Review

Posted on October 12, 2024October 7, 2024 by Wordsmyth

It’s time to review this week’s words:

honorIf people show you honor, it means that they do something to show that they think you are very special and great. Usually, they think you have done something very brave or wonderful, and they are proud of you.
speciesA species is one particular group of living things. There are very many different species of animals and plants in the world. Cats, dogs, and people are of three different species. Members of the same species produce young together as part of a natural process. That means that cats naturally produce kittens, for example. Humans produce human babies. Roses of one species produce new roses of the same species.
mercyIf a judge treats a prisoner with mercy, the judge does not punish the prisoner as much as he or she could. If a student does something very wrong and the school principal shows mercy to them, the principal gives them only a mild punishment, or they stop the punishment they are already giving. Mercy is a type of kindness or a kind way of treating someone.
corruptionWhen there is corruption, there is activity that is not honest. There is a lot of cheating, and people are doing secret things, usually for money, that are not legal or right.
inspireIf someone or something inspires you, they give you confidence that you can do something or the feeling that you want to do something.
