transitive verb

to make vacant or unoccupied by leaving.
They vacated the room just as the new guests were arriving.
She announced that she will vacate her position on the governor’s staff.

intransitive verb

to leave or surrender a job or location.
I plan to vacate just as soon as my new job is assured.
