WOTD: dawdle

intransitive verb

1. to walk slowly and aimlessly; linger along the way.
If you dawdle, you will be late.

2. to waste time; be slow and somewhat idle.
The children do the dishwashing, but they tend to dawdle over it.

transitive verb

to waste (time) by idling (often fol. by “away”).
He was dawdling the afternoon away.
