definition:
When you sacrifice something, you give up something that you value a lot. You give it up in order to do something that you think is even more important or more valuable. Often, people sacrifice something in order to help other people.

example:
Shannon sacrificed her free time to help her brother with his homework.
Tina’s mother sacrificed going back to college in order to take care of Tina’s grandmother.
