intransitive verb

1. to enter a situation so as to change what is happening.
The teacher intervened in the children’s quarrel.
If the neighbor had not intervened, a tragedy might have occurred.
I’m sorry to intervene, but you both have got your facts wrong.

2. to occur between certain other events or points of time.
Several events intervened between the beginning of the negotiations and the actual signing of the document.
