transitive verb

to put or plunge under water or other fluid.
The crew submerged the submarine.
He submerged his feet in the warm water.
Submerge the vegetables in boiling water to blanch them.

intransitive verb

to sink or plunge under, or as though under, water.
The submarine submerged rapidly.
The scuba diver submerged and did not return to the surface for several minutes.
