intransitive verb

to feel or show deep sorrow or grief, esp. for the dead; grieve.
The city mourned for the people who had lost their lives in the explosion.
Fans of the rock-‘n’-roll idol mourned over his death.
Some citizens mourned while others celebrated at the news of the dictator’s death.

transitive verb

to grieve over (a death or the dead).
He deeply mourned the death of his mother.
The children mourned their father in different ways.
