1. to stare in surprise, awe, or wonder, esp. with the mouth open.
The fans gaped at the celebrities.

2. to hold the mouth open for any reason, as in yawning.
The child gaped wide for dentist.

3. to be or become open.
Astounded, his mouth gaped open.
The fissure gaped wide.

noun

1. the action or an occurrence of gaping.

2. a gap or other wide opening.
