1. a very thin layer of fine wood or the like that is bonded to a cheaper material to form a more attractive surface.
The furniture is made with particle board covered with an oak veneer.

2. any superficial outward appearance or show.
She disliked her aunt, but she adopted a veneer of politeness in her presence.

3. a facing of one material, such as brick, applied to another material, such as wood, for protection or ornament.
