The improper behavior of one of the staff subjected the school to criticism.

2. to cause to endure, suffer, or undergo (followed by “to”).
The captors subjected the prisoners to brutal punishments.
The students observed as the professor subjected the metal to intense heat.

3. to bring under one’s power, authority, or influence.
The conquerors subjected all the lands to the west.
