WOTD: partake

intransitive verb

1. to take part; participate (usually followed by “in”).
We all partook in the neighborhood block party last summer.
He knew of his friends’ robbery plan, but he did not partake in the crime.
Many volunteers partook in the effort to help those people affected by the tornado.

2. to have or receive a part or portion (usually followed by “of”).
I hope you’ll partake of dessert, since I made something special.
Many happily partook of the opportunity to help out.
