example:  The principal animus for a harmonious polity, I think, is religious.

definition 2:  a feeling or attitude of enmity.
example:  The animus between the two lead actors interfered with filming.

definition 3:  In Jungian psychology, the archetypal masculine element in a woman’s psyche.
example:  Jung wrote, “A woman possessed by the animus is always in danger of losing her femininity.”
