a discussion, esp. between opponents or enemies, as to establish terms of truce. The general called for a parley to discuss a truce.

intransitive verb
to engage in a discussion with an opponent or enemy, as to arrange a truce. The leaders parleyed but neither were satisfied with the other’s terms.

transitive verb
to build on or take advantage of (something) so that it becomes something greater or yields a desired object. He parleyed his good looks and charm into a successful career as an actor. She parleyed her idea into a national chain of salons.
