1: a device used to join together a pair of draft animals, usu. comprising a crossbar with two U-shaped loops, each fitted around the head of an animal.
2: a harnessed pair of draft animals.
A yoke of oxen pulled the heavy plow.
3: a frame or crosspiece designed to fit a person’s shoulders for carrying equal loads at either end.
4: something that oppresses or burdens.
The conquered peoples were subjected to the yoke of slavery.
5: something that joins people, esp. in effort.

 transitive verb
1: to attach or harness (a draft animal) to a plow, wagon, carriage, or the like.
2: to unite or link; connect.
3: to force into servitude; enslave.

 intransitive verb
to be connected or joined.
