definition 1:  the firing of guns or other firearms simultaneously or in succession, esp. as a salute.
example: We heard the roar of salvos from the ship.
definition 2:  a sudden expression of appreciation, such as applause, cheers, or praise.
example: The soloist received enthusiastic salvos from the audience.

definition 3:  a sudden attack, as with punches or criticisms.
example: Refused by the bartender, the drunk let out a salvo of curses.
