1. to decide (something) firmly or earnestly, or to cause (someone) to do so.
Many of us resolve to exercise more at the beginning of each new year.
The attack on Pearl Harbor resolved the United States to enter World War II.

2. to clear up or deal with successfully.
Let’s try to resolve this problem here and now.
