definition 1: an exclusive right or privilege derived from one’s office, position, age, citizenship, birth, or the like.
As a resident of the city, it is your prerogative to vote in city elections, but no one can force you to, of course.
definition 2: a right or privilege enjoyed by a particular individual or particular group.
I’m an adult, and it’s my prerogative to decide whom I will marry.
