adjective

definition 1: rigorously simple and disciplined; austere; self-denying.
example: It was necessary to adopt an ascetic lifestyle during the war.
Their new stepfather imposed an ascetic regimen on the family.

definition 2: extremely strict in religious observances involving self-denial and self-mortification.
example: The monks lead an ascetic life at the monastery.
